How to install Android Studio on PC

Minimum Requirements to install Android Studio on PC:

Before going to the process to install Android Studio on your PC, you must check your PC whether it meets the minimum requirement to install the software. Let’s check your PC:
  1. Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7/8/10 (32-bit or 64-bit).
  2. RAM: Your PC must have minimum 3 GB of RAM but 8 GB RAM is recommended (plus 1 GB for the Android Emulator)
  3. Disk Space: You need minimum 2 GB of disc space and 4 GB is recommended (500 MB for IDE plus 1.5 GB for Android SDK and emulator system image)
  4. Screen resolution: Minimum 1280 × 800

Step by step procedure to install Android Studio on PC:

Step 1: Download Android Studio

First you have to download .exe file of Android Studio. You download it by visiting the following link:  

On this link, you have to the version of your PC either 32-bit or 64-bit under downloads for Windows. You can only download the Zip file of Android Studio for 32-bit version, while.exe file is available for 64-bit. To begin the downloading process, you have to accept the license agreement. If you have 32-bit Windows, then you have to unzip the downloaded zip file, copy the android-studio folder into your Program Files folder, and then open the android-studio > bin folder and launch studio.exe file.

Step 2: Download JDK:

You should have Java Development Kit (JDK) on your PC for the functioning of Android Studio. Latest version of Android Studio comes with OpenJDK 8, so you need not to download the JDK separately. It is recommended to use OpenJDK. If you have an old Android project’s, which uses the JDK you can convert them to use the OpenJDK from the Android Studio menu, File > Project Structure -> SDK Location -> JDK location and check the Use embedded JDK.

Step 3: Install Android Studio:

After completing the downloading process, you have to double click on the downloaded installer file to begin the installation process. Once you click on that file, a welcome screen of Android Studio Setup will be shown, click on the ‘Next’ button. 

On the next window, it will give you the options to choose the components. You have to choose both the options and click on ‘Next’ button at the bottom. Then, you have to choose the installation path. In default it would be saved in C:\Program Files\Android\, if you want to change that directory, you can click on the Browse option and select the location and click on the Next.

On the next window, you have to click on the ‘Install’ button. Once installation gets complete, completing Android Studio Setup screen will appear. Tick the box besides Start Android Studio option and then click on ‘Finish’ button.

Step 4: Setup Android Studio:

Once you click on the finish button, the welcome screen of Android Studio will appear on your PC. Just follow the steps to setup configuration.
  • When you launch the Android Studio for the first time, it will ask you to Import the Studio settings. You have to select ‘Do not import settings’ option and click on OK.
  • Then it will ask you to confirm whether you want to share usage statistics with Google. You can choose options according to your wish.
  • After that, android studio will download the necessary components and then it will show dialog box of Android Setup Wizard. Click on next to proceed.
  • The next dialog box will ask you for the Install Type. 
  • If you are a beginner and do not have any idea about Android Studio, choose the "Standard" option. It will install the most common settings and options for you. Click ‘Next’ to continue.
  • Now, you have to select the User Interface theme as your wish. Once you are done, click on the ‘Next’ button.
  • Then the dialog box of ‘Verify Settings’ will appear. Here, you can check the settings.
  • You can click on the ‘previous’ button if you want to change any settings or click on the ‘Finish’ to complete the installation.

Now, it will begin to download and install all the necessary components. Once it is finished, Android Studio has been successfully installed on your PC. Now, you can begin the new Android Studio Project.
